Thank you for contacting me regarding the technology used to create the concurrent classroom model you saw in a recent video. I am available to work with schools to help them problem solve and think aloud together regarding how this setup could be used in your classrooms. Complete the Contact Me, and I will be in touch to talk more about how I could provide my services. My recent post detailed how this concurrent model provides teachers with a cohesive way to connect with and engage in-person and virtual students simultaneously. Due to limited funding and timeline to make purchases over the summer, we purchased the resources, shown in the video, through http://www.Amazon.com. For your convenience, we listed and linked all items we purchased in the video. Click on the items below to ensure you purchase the correct item to support the classroom concurrent/hybrid learning environment in your schools.
For Concurrent Learning setup, you need two laptops (one laptop if teacher does not use computer during instruction):
1. Teacher’s computer used to deliver instruction, as needed. If teacher does not use a computer for instruction, only one computer will be needed for concurrent learning shown in video.
2. Computer to connect with and display virtual students via Google Meet, Zoom, BBCU.
Teacher and Staff Voice Amplifier – (Worn by staff member)
- Projects teacher’s voice to students in class and virtual students. Teachers love these because the voice amplifier can be used at recess, hall, dismissal, etc.
- Wired amplifier is the featured voice amplifier in classroom video.
- I upgraded to the wireless version of the voice amplifier. Teachers preferred the wireless option.
Speakers (plugged to Google Meet, Zoom, BBCU computer)
- amplify virtual students’ voices into the classroom for students and teachers to hear.
- 4-pack (enough for 4 classrooms)
Back Wall Projector (HDMI cabled to Google Meet, Zoom, BBCU computer)
- pointed at the back of the classroom to display the virtual students on back wall. Maximizes instruction classroom management and engagement because in-person and virtual students are all within the teacher’s field-of-vision.
- * BenQ projector is the featured back wall projector in classroom video.
- Instead of a projector, you could purchase a large monitor. In-person students can also see virtual students. The computer monitor works well in smaller classroom spaces when positioned near teacher. Drawbacks: Teacher will need to change field-of-vision from near to far to engage virtual and in-person students which may cause visual discomfort. Only teacher can see virtual students.
For Concurrent Learning setup, ideally you want two projectors (one projector if teacher does not use projector during instruction):
1. Projector connected to teacher laptop to display instruction on whiteboard. If teacher does not use projector during instruction, only one projector will be needed for concurrent learning shown in video.
2. Projector to display Virtual students on back wall. As a cost savings, use a freestanding projector from a “Virtual only teacher’s classroom”. Or purchase one of the lower cost projectors below.
Webcam (plugged to Google Meet, Zoom, BBCU computer)
- 1080p camera that clips on top of the computer to stream teacher at front of the classroom to virtual students. This allows the teacher to write on the whiteboard/chalkboard when teaching both in-person and virtual students.
- NexiGo 1080p webcam featured in classroom video
- **Logitech Conference Webcam has zooming feature, integrated speakers and microphone, so no separate speakers and conference microphone are needed.
Conference Microphone (plugged to Google Meet, Zoom, BBCU computer)
- conference room microphone so virtual students can hear in-school questions and conversations in the classroom. The microphone captures both teacher and in-school student voices for virtual students to hear.
Additional Items Needed for the Setup in Video
HDMI Cable 25′– connects Google Meet, Zoom, BBCU computer to back wall projector
Gaffer Tape– tapes HDMI Cable 25′ to floor
OPTIONAL ITEMS
INSWAN USB Document Camera (Connects to teacher’s laptop to display with classroom projector. This DOES NOT connect to Google Meet, Zoom, BBC computer)
HDMI Hub (may be needed if computer does not have enough HDMI ports)
